HCA Awarded the WayPaver Award for its System-Wide Barcoding Technologies

MEDITECH congratulates HCA for being honored as the recipient of the WayPaver award for paving the way for barcode technologies at the recent unSUMMIT on Bedside Barcoding Technology in Practice meeting. HCA is currently LIVE with MEDITECH's Bedside Medication Verification software at over 150 sites. Their clinicians use laptop computers and hand-held scanners at the patient's bedside to read barcode labels on medications and patient armbands to ensure the correct patient receives the correct medication. HCA's system-wide medication barcoding system has helped further advance their overall organizational patient safety initiative and is being used as a model for other patient safety programs within the organization. HCA claims that last year approximately 116 million doses of medicine were administered to the correct patients and more than 2 million errors were averted as a result of its barcoding system.
