6.0 Early Adopters West Georgia and Doylestown Share Success Stories at Nursing Forum
(6/12/2009)
Attendees of MEDITECH's recent Nurse Informatics Workshop got the chance to hear directly from two hospitals who have led the way in using MEDITECH's latest technologies to improve patient care delivery. West Georgia Health System (LaGrange, GA), the first hospital to go LIVE with 6.0, and Doylestown Hospital (Doylestown, PA),the first existing MAGIC customer to migrate to 6.0, both spoke publicly about their journeys to excellence and shared the latest on their progress.
Cinda Morrow, RN, BSN, clinical information systems manager at West Georgia Health System, and Carol Muhlbauer, assistant director of applications development and support at Doylestown Hospital, provided detailed overviews of their implementation timelines and processes, stressing the importance of securing executive and physician buy-in at the start of the project. They also described how they have been able to incorporate even more advanced clinical functionality into their systems in the months since they first went LIVE.
6.0 users since last January, West Georgia is now benefiting from Electronic Signature, Emergency Department Management (EDM), nursing documentation, and acute care documentation. All of their reports and labs are electronic and all Emergency Department templates are fully automated, beginning in June 2009. The hospital has also been actively tracking for better results and investigating how to secure stimulus funds for their physician offices. This October, West Georgia also hopes to bring Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) LIVE in the Emergency Department and Physician Documentation LIVE house-wide, in early Spring 2010.
Since going LIVE with 6.0 last May, Doylestown has found success with the EDM Tracker, Medication Reconciliation, nursing documentation, and the electronic Medication Administration Record (eMAR). As part of their goal to become a completely paperless health care facility, Doylestown plans to go LIVE with their Hospitalist pilot and CPOE this summer, followed by EDM in minor acute and acute care this fall.
Stay tuned for more updates on West Georgia and Doylestown throughout the year!
