Taking the World by Storm
Several MEDITECH customers share their successes with EHRs, interoperability, and preparing for Meaningful Use at the World Congress Leadership Summit.

Medical representatives and I.T. leaders from around the country met at the recent World Congress Leadership Summit on Leveraging the Stimulus Funding to Accelerate EHR Adoption in Washington, DC. Several executives from MEDITECH customer sites, including Unity Health Center (Shawnee, OK), Caritas Christi Health Care System (Boston, MA), UW Health Partners-Watertown Regional Medical Center (Watertown, WI), and Gila Regional Medical Center (Silver City, NM), were among the featured speakers at this year's event. Highlights included:
Unity Health Center's Vice President and CIO Kena Jones, and I.T. Physician Leader Scott Stewart, MD, explained how their organization collaborated with the state of Oklahoma in order to advance Health Information Exchange (HIE) across the region.
Caritas Christi's Senior Vice President and CIO Todd Rothenhaus, MD, provided an overview of Caritas' three-year $70 million I.T. plan, and shared how they successfully deployed an EHR to 1,300 community-based independent physicians.
UW Health Partners-Watertown Regional Medical Center's Vice President and CIO Jennifer Laughlin explained the importance of physician buy-in, while providing detailed implementation strategies, and lessons learned on their journey to Stage 6 EMR recognition.
Gila Regional Medical Center's CIO David R. Furnas discussed how, with the right plan in place, health care organizations can successfully meet the current challenge of demonstrating Meaningful Use.
