MEDITECH Shares Expertise at National HIT Conference
(5/12/2010)

MEDITECH's Howard Messing was a featured speaker during the Massachusetts Health Data Consortium's recent national conference on health care I.T., titled "Health Information Technology: Creating Jobs, Reducing Costs and Improving Quality." The event focused on the HITECH Act, examining how companies can use health information technology (HIT) and health information exchange (HIE) as an engine of job creation.

Messing participated in a CEO panel session, "Jobs, Jobs, Jobs — Health I.T., Business Opportunities, and Job Creation," showcasing leaders from several high-profile I.T. companies. He discussed MEDITECH's hiring efforts and the challenges of finding candidates with I.T. degrees. Messing also emphasized that MEDITECH is committed to creating jobs by hiring candidates from Massachusetts and surrounding New England states, and has no plans to ever outsource.

"MEDITECH is and always has been a Massachusetts company," Messing says. "As we increase our staffing to meet the growing demands being placed upon our industry, we will continue to hire within our state and support the local economy."

National Coordinator for Health I.T. David Blumenthal was also a keynote speaker at the conference, giving an update on the national progress of health I.T. adoption and the grants his office is distributing for health I.T. education and training. He discussed the HITECH Act and its vision for coordinated care, and also the enormous job opportunities it has created in health I.T.

Other speakers included Governor of Massachusetts Deval Patrick; Vice Admiral Regina M. Benjamin, MD, M.B.A., the 18th Surgeon General of the U.S. Public Health Service; and Secretary of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Health & Human Services JudyAnn Bigby, MD.
