Norman
Regional Health System Chooses MEDITECH to Advance
its Health Care Delivery
(12/19/2006)
MEDITECH is pleased
to announce that Norman Regional Health System (Norman,
OK) has chosen MEDITECH to supply a new information
technology system, including clinical and financial
applications, as well as integration and workflow
solutions. Norman Regional is currently comprised of
a 337-bed specialty hospital, with a second 125-bed
facility opening in first quarter 2009. The new
specialty hospital will include services for Women
and Children, Cardiac Care, and Orthopedics/Neurosurgery.
"We chose
MEDITECH's Health Care Information System (HCIS) for
its high level of system integration and rich
functionality. After going over the pros and cons, we
knew that their applications were the right fit for
our Health System," says Ed Fisher, VP/CIO at
Norman Regional. "It's an exciting time; our
Health System is growing fast, and MEDITECH fits
perfectly with our strategic initiatives."
During the summer of
2005, Norman Regional began a system search led by a
multi-specialty planning committee that included
senior management, the physician's advisory board,
patient care services, clinicians, and financial
managers. This committee was searching for a fully
integrated solution that could assist them in
delivering safe, quality, and efficient patient care,
and to turn strategic goals into reality.
"We want to be
the Health System of choice in Oklahoma. That's why
we chose MEDITECH. We went from looking at best-of-breed,
heavily interfaced products to a fully integrated
system. We can't afford any surprises, and we know
MEDITECH is a strong leader in health care with a
reputation for delivering," says Fisher. By
choosing MEDITECH, Norman Regional will be able to
eliminate a large number of its current interfaces as
well as the headaches associated with multi-platform
updates and upgrades."
"There's a lot
of excitement from our clinicians and our physicians,"
says Fisher. "We are very confident moving into
this first phase with MEDITECH and expect great
success."
Norman Regional is
currently working with MEDITECH's implementation team
and has a kickoff meeting set for January 2007. A big-bang
go-LIVE is planned for December 2007. In addition to
core financial and clinical applications, Norman
Regional will be implementing MEDITECH's full suite
of patient safety applications, including Physician
Order Entry, Bedside Medication Administration, and
Multi-disciplinary Clinical Documentation.
Implementation of the Oncology and Patient Education
applications will follow in 2008.
