of MEDITECH Hospitals Recognized in Computerworld's Top 100

Congratulations to our customers Mal Griffin, CIO of Interior
Health Authority (Kelowna, BC), and Joseph L. DeVenuto, CIO
of Norton Healthcare (Louisville, KY), for being recognized
as honorees of Computerworld's
Premier 100 I.T. Leaders. The list for 2009 features 22 women and 78
men, all ranging in age from 34 to 62, who are blazing new
trails in the adoption of I.T. for their businesses.
Griffin is one such leader who has overseen
transformational change at Interior Health, helping his
organization to become the first MEDITECH Canadian customer
to migrate to MEDITECH's 6.0 Release. Griffin feels I.T.
plays a key role in the success of a health care organization,
but it shouldn't be differentiated as separate from other
business processes, rather the two should be one in the same.
When interviewed for the Top 100, Griffin described his
philosophy on I.T. leadership: "The culture of I.T.
needs to change from being about I.T. to being about the
business. I.T. workers need to learn about the business of
health care, learn to speak in the language of business and
align their day-to-day activities with the needs of the
business."
DeVenuto explains in his Computerworld interview that even
though I.T. is constantly changing and evolving, its main
purpose always stays 
the same: "Improve the current
conditions, add efficiency and repeatability, and enable
people to do more." DeVenuto's mantra is simple;
technology has to work for everyone in the organization.
Through his leadership, clinicians at Norton Healthcare are
no longer lured by flashy technology that doesn't work or
doesn't help them achieve something, but now view I.T. as an
evolving, necessary tool for productivity and connectedness.
In addition to a strong internal I.T. culture, Norton has
also made great strides in the industry, becoming one of the
first health care organizations to voluntarily post quality
transparency reports on its Web site.
