MEDITECH Customer Becomes First Canadian Site to Achieve Stage 6

Congratulations to South Okanagan General Hospital (Oliver, BC), on becoming the first Canadian site to achieve Stage 6 Electronic Medical Record (EMR) adoption recognition from HIMSS Analytics. South Okanagan is part of the Interior Health Authority (Kelowna, BC), a MEDITECH customer for over 20 years, which serves a geographical area of almost 215,000 square kilometres and is comprised of 180 sites, including 22 acute care hospitals.

"We're thrilled to be the first, and it's a credit to the great partnership we have with our physicians, clinicians, and administrators at South Okanagan," says Mal Griffin, CIO of Interior Health Authority. "We're very appreciative of HIMSS Analytics for extending their efforts into Canada."

Interior Health Authority is an example of one customer making enormous strides in implementing a variety of technologies and advanced clinical information systems to enhance clinical decision making and quality of care. In 2006, South Okanagan won an Organizational Transformation Health Award for successfully implementing an Advanced Clinical System that supports both quality and patient safety.

Griffin, who was recently recognized as an honoree of ComputerWorld's Premier 100 I.T. Leaders, continues to work with his great team to blaze new trails in the adoption of I.T. across Interior. Griffin has overseen transformational change at the health authority, helping his organization to become one of the first MEDITECH Canadian customers to migrate to MEDITECH's 6.0 platform.
