MEDITECH Vice President Attends Australian Medinfo Congress
(11/20/2007)

As health care organizations face new problems such as population growth, poverty, and disease outbreaks, it's even more challenging for public health leaders to prepare and support caregivers with health systems that help monitor and analyze information quickly and efficiently. This year's Medinfo 2007 Congress discussed those worldwide challenges along with the important role technology plays in helping solve these issues at their annual conference held in Brisbane, Australia. MEDITECH's Joanne Wood, vice president of client services, was among the attendees at this event, hosted by the Health Informatics Society of Australia (HISA) and members of the New Zealand Informatics (HINZ) organization.

"The Australian market is very much like the U.S.—upgrading facilities, trying to be more customer friendly, creating new large medical facilities, and engaging physicians," says Wood. "Visitors to the MEDITECH Australia booth were very interested in hearing more about our presence in the Australian market and specifically about electronic medical records and interoperability."

Wood was joined at the exhibition booth by John Tresling, managing director of
MEDITECH South Africa and Douglas Murray, operations director for MEDITECH Australia. "Showcasing the 5.6 Release of our software to this international audience was particularly exciting," said Tresling. "People were amazed by the new look and feel, as well as the functionality, of the software."

Tresling and Murray noted that Wood's experience with implementing and supporting the MEDITECH system was invaluable in discussions, both at the booth and during a number of the sessions at the conference. "Joanne has particular skills in explaining complex system integration concepts and in practical terms understood across the range of MEDITECH applications," said Murray.

During her visit, Wood had the opportunity to visit the staff at the MEDITECH Australia office and offered insight on certain customer service issues. Wood also visited
Greenslopes Hospital, which is part of the Ramsay Health organization and is one of the largest acute care private hospitals in Australia. "It was a wonderful opportunity for me to represent MEDITECH," noted Wood. "The people of Australia are just so giving and gracious."
