Nurse Leader Conference to Explore Strategies for Turning Challenge into Change

MEDITECH's Nurse Leader Conference is just a month away—have you registered yet? If you're a nurse executive or informaticist, you won't want to miss this exciting educational and networking event! The conference will run from Wednesday, June 8th to Friday, the 10th. It will be held at the Boston Marriott Quincy Hotel, and is free of charge to MEDITECH's Nursing and Home Care communities.

Over the course of the three days, industry speakers, customers, and MEDITECH staff will delve into some of your greatest challenges and explore strategies for turning those challenges into positive change.

The conference kicks off with a networking luncheon on Wednesday, followed by an afternoon of sessions geared toward executive-level nurses. Industry experts will address a variety of topics germane to today's clinical leaders, including: nurse leadership in the age of health care reform, Magnet designation as a vehicle for pursuing excellence in nursing, using research to improve outcomes, and the future of nursing.

On Thursday, the focus shifts to nursing and home care. We are pleased to welcome two keynote speakers to our conference this year. Kathleen Bartholomew, one of the nation's most sought-after nursing consultants, will share strategies for identifying your organization's patient safety culture and sustaining the value system/behaviors required to keep patients safe. Home care keynoter Patricia Kelleher will provide a "state of the state" with regard to the home care industry, focusing in particular on the changes being brought about by health care reform. Kelleher is Executive Director of the Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts.

Educational Sessions Offer Something for Everyone
The remainder of Thursday and Friday will feature a full slate of main program sessions and Education Summits. "We are pleased to offer attendees more than 20 Education Summits from which to choose," says Cathy Turner, director of MEDITECH's Nurse Informatics Program. "The Education Summits will be divided into two tracks—nursing and home care—to give attendees the opportunity to learn about and discuss a variety of topics in a smaller group setting, and to foster more interaction between the attendees and the presenters." A number of the sessions, according to Turner, have been submitted to the Massachusetts Association of Registered Nurses, Inc. for Contact Hours.

Nursing Education Summits, led by MEDITECH staff and customers, will focus on a broad range of topics, including: integrating technology into practice, measuring outcomes with Bedside Medication Verification, proactive infection control, deploying best practices, and quality reporting for Meaningful Use. Other sessions will provide an overview of MEDITECH product offerings such as 6.1 Surgical Services and our new Patient and Consumer Health Portal.

Meanwhile, Home Care Ed Summits will highlight how MEDITECH's Home Care solution streamlines daily tasks and helps transform care delivered outside the acute care setting. Some of our most innovative customers will share how their organizations are using Maestro to optimize IDT, improve clinical operations, and more. Speakers will also present strategies for effective care planning and building advanced intervention care step categories, and other practical tips and pointers.
