MEDITECH is excited to announce its long-time MAGIC customer and HIMSS Stage 6 recipient Frederick Memorial Hospital (Frederick, MD) is the first hospital in Maryland to attest for Stage 1 Meaningful Use. The organization attested in October, and received $2.8 million for the Medicare EHR Incentive Program. Frederick Memorial's Vice President and CIO, David Quirke, praises the hospital's continued commitment to technology to meet the government's mandates.
"We've worked together to improve patient care with MEDITECH's advanced technology solution," he remarks. "When the Stage 1 regulations came out, we felt we were in a great position to meet the mandates based on what we were already doing, and we feel we are ahead of the curve with the advances we've already made with MEDITECH's Bedside Verification (BV) and Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) solutions."
For customers looking to achieve Stage 1, Quirke recommends tackling each Meaningful Use measure one at a time. "We made the Meaningful Use project more manageable by assigning one measure to each hospital analyst," he says. "The analyst became the expert on the measure, and led the way in meeting the requirements."
Also, Frederick Memorial relied on MEDITECH's Best Practices documentation for support in meeting Stage 1. "I think MEDITECH did an outstanding job in outlining exactly how we needed to optimize the system to meet each measure," says Quirke.
Looking forward, the hospital is starting to make preparations for Stage 2, and recently became an early adopter of MEDITECH's 6.1 release. "MAGIC has provided us with all the necessary elements and functionality to achieve both HIMSS Stage 6 and Meaningful Use Stage 1," says Quirke. "Now, we lead into the future with MEDITECH's new 6.1 platform."
