   • Full access to mail and tracking information via the Internet
   • Integration with the MEDITECH HCIS.

Standard Features

Improved Communication
The Integrated Communication System facilitates communication among the many physicians, clinicians, patients, administrators, and health care executives who make up a health care community. Physicians can communicate with colleagues and patients and be sure that messages are sent and received. Busy hospital staff can locate other employees or find important information using a simple and easy-to-use tracking system. Because it uses industry-standard protocols, the Integrated Communication System can communicate with other e-mail systems.

An Important Clinical Tool
The Integrated Communication System becomes an important clinical tool for physicians when used to assist with daily patient care responsibilities. E-mail now becomes a new way to efficiently communicate information.

User-Friendly Electronic Communiqué
MEDITECH's Integrated Communication System is comfortable and easy to use. The software provides standard, user-friendly electronic messaging functions, enabling users to:
• Create, edit, send, forward, reply, receive, delete, scroll, select, and view electronic messages
• Toggle among new, read, old, and future mail lists
• Interact with external entities using disparate e-mail programs
• Direct the product by using a mouse or keyboard equivalents

• Receive and send various attachment types, including HTML documents
• Sort the list of displayed messages by subject, by sender, by date and time of receipt, and by number of attachments
• Spell check messages.

Integrated Communication System Trax
The Integrated Communication System Trax component displays demographic and location information about each user on a health care organization's system. The Trax captures this information from the MEDITECH dictionaries, saving staff time from double entry.

Users can view the demographic and location information pertaining to themselves as well as to other users on the system. Information provided in the Integrated Communication System Trax includes:
• User name
• Job title
• Phone extension
• E-mail address
• Department
• Main facility location
• Work hours
• Supervisor name
• Organization-defined parameters defining whether or not attachments can be received
• Staff photos
• Room locator that includes the ability to incorporate maps and directions.

Integration
Our Integrated Communication System has been designed to work seamlessly as part of our HCIS to offer one dynamic and fully integrated product suite. By taking advantage of data already entered in the dictionaries, customers avoid the need for double entry. The dynamic design of our total integrated solution also sets the stage for expanded use with clinical applications as the functionality of the ICS further evolves.

An additional benefit of having one integrated system is that all products contained in our HCIS share the same built-in security features. Since the Integrated Communication System is integrated with the MEDITECH dictionaries, all user access and confidential patient record restrictions automatically apply.

System Performance and Benefits
MEDITECH's robust technology solution coupled with industry-standard components is fast and reliable, offering a real value to our customers. The system runs on Microsoft® Windows 2000 servers. These servers power the basic functions of sending, opening, creating, reading, and closing a message. The clients (Microsoft Windows 95/98/NT/2000/Me) handle the remaining functions. Limited taxation on the servers increases the service provided to users and maximizes the power of the clients. Customers benefit from low administrative "overhead" costs as well as minimal required resources and time.

Secure Desktop Access
Access to the Integrated Communication System is easy and secure. Users simply click on their Integrated Communication System application icon. The native Integrated Communication System address book prevents users from receiving viruses targeted at public address books.

Access to Mail and Trax Via the Internet
Users can also access the mail and Trax via any Web portal. The Integrated Communication System uses the industry-standard SSL (secure socket layer) Protocol.
