Flexibility in Administering Care
Ordering

that increases their ability to provide the highest level
of care and allows them to update patient records in real
time with new data. Users can view and manipulate
information pertaining to:
Specific patient allergies
Prescription histories, renewals and changes
Authorized prescriptions from other physicians
Discontinued prescriptions.
Prescriptions
With
Ordering, physicians are given a safe and efficient means
to order prescriptions for patients. Ordering utilizes
conflict checking such as drug-drug, drug-allergy and
drug-food interaction checking to ensure the safety of
the patient when prescribing medications.
Additional alerts and conflicts can be identified by
using rules-based logic. User-defined rules direct care
providers to the next logical step in a given procedure
as well as flag dangerous or unusual values. For example,
actions triggered by a rule when placing an order might
include an organization-defined warning message based on
a condition, such as pregnancy, or checks to restrict an
order to a certain age range or gender. Rules may be
attached to specific orders within Ordering.
Physicians, as well as other authorized users, are given
the following options to transmit prescriptions to
pharmacies:
Electronic prescribing (through a licensure with
DrFirst)
Fax (manual or automatic)
Telephone
Printing paper prescriptions.
Procedures
Ordering
seamlessly integrates with MEDITECH's Laboratory and
Microbiology as well as the Imaging and Therapeutic
Services applications. When diagnostic orders are placed
within Ordering, these orders flow electronically to the
corresponding MEDITECH module where the tests are
resulted and electronically returned for immediate review.
Clinicians can quickly and conveniently order diagnostic
and office procedures, follow-up appointments, referrals
and durable medical equipment while providing the highest
level of care for their patients.
